THE WINTER GUEST is set in a seaside town in Scotland on the coldest day in living memory, a day so cold even the sea has frozen solid. On this day, an elderly woman (Phyllida Law) arrives uninvited and unexpected at the home of her grown-up daughter (Emma Thompson), who is still paralyzed with grief following the death of her husband. As their story unfolds against a backdrop of frigid, implacable nature, THE WINTER GUEST reveals the subtle, life-altering changes that occur just beneath the surface of human lives.
The music is by Michael Kamen, one of the busiest composers in music. Michael Kamen has scored such feature films as Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Mr. Holland's Opus and the songs "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" and "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?". Kamen is the recipient of the BAFTA and Ivor Novello Awards for his score for the television series "Edge Of Darkness", collaboration with Eric Clapton.
"THE WINTER GUEST" is a beautiful, emotionally generous film with shining performances by real-life mother and daughter Phyllida Law and Emma Thompson." Jay Carr, Boston Globe
