A New York psychiatrist (Douglas) is pushed to the limit of his emotional and physical endurance when his daughter is kidnapped by a killer who will stop at nothing to extract information from him about one of his patients.

The psychiatrist has been treating a nearly-catatonic young woman (Britany Murphy) who has a violent past. She holds a key piece of information, buried in her subconscious, that puts her, her doctor and his family in mortal danger.
