Back in 1981 Miklós Rózsa traveled to Nuremberg, Germany to record this album of his dynamic score for director Richard Marquand’s Eye of the Needle with the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. It was with this orchestra that he recorded such monumental pieces as Quo Vadis, Ben Hur and El Cid in the 1950s and 1960s. In fact it was Miklos Rozsa, one of the very first composers to begin recording for Varèse Sarabande, who brought Colosseum together with Varèse – a fateful move which flourished into the now over 30-year partnership of the two companies.

With this recording, Rózsa delivered a genre classic for this gripping thriller penned by Ken Follett in which Donald Sutherland stars as a villainous Nazi spy whose passions betray him via a married woman (Kate Nelligan) in an intriguing blend of romance and espionage set against the backdrop of WWII Britain.
