The Spiral Road [Jerry Goldsmith]
Another early classic from Jerry Goldsmith comes to CD for the first time. A sprawling and exotic adventure score with thrilling action music and a beautiful love theme, The Spiral Road is an astonishingly complex and sophisticated score. Goldsmith’s score for The Spiral Road was his longest and most epic to that point, featuring 65 minutes of music.

The Goonies [Dave Grusin]
Jazz icon Dave Grusin is one of the great legends of film music, having composed such classic scores as On Golden Pond, Tootsie, The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Firm, And Justice For All and Absence of Malice. Grusin also won and Academy Award for The Milagro Beanfield War. This CD, featuring Grusin’s complete swashbuckling score, plus a few bonus cues, should give all Goonies fans everything they have ever hoped for!

The Scout / Dreamer [Bill Conti]
Conti’s heroic score for The Scout has become one of his most requested in this new age when the genuine grails have all been released.
Dreamer is an early but fun Bill Conti score for the obscure bowling film which starred Tim Matheson, Susan Blakely and Jack Warden. Conti’s music is always inspiring – even for a bowling film! – and, thanks to the presence of Susan Blakely, we get a beautiful love theme as well!

The Manhattan Project [Philippe Sarde]
Philippe Sarde is one of film music’s most extraordinary composers. Sarde’s score for Marshall Brickman’s 1986 thriller The Manhattan Project is both exciting and beautiful – electronic and orchestral. His work is always melodically inspired and skillfully orchestrated.

Freud: The Deluxe Edition
Jerry Goldsmith received his very first Oscar nomination for his score for John Huston’s 1962 film FREUD.An utterly brilliant score, Freud gave Goldsmith the opportunity to psychologically probe the human mind. He merged his own musical style with the Vienna school of Berg, Webern and Schoenberg to produce an agitated and thoroughly captivating work. Without question, this is one of the most important scores of Jerry Goldsmith’s career.

Bird Of Paradise / Lydia Bailey
A double dose of cinematic musical splendor for those OK with travelling back a little farther in time to a Golden Age when such film music releases as this couldn't even be dreamed of. Lending power and verisimilitude to the occasionally silly — if supremely diverting — proceedings in Bird of Paradise, is Daniele Amfitheatrof’s gorgeously evocative score.
Very different in kind is the muscular score to Lydia Bailey, somber and grave from the very first moments of its opening cue, Mirabeau, with Hugo Friedhofer brilliantly blending straightforward symphonic suspense and daring hints of African-style percussion.

Revolution
A major film music premier comes in this first-ever release of John Corigliano’s brilliant score for Hugh Hudson’s 1985 film Revolution.
John Corigliano’s very first film score, that for the film Altered States (1980), immediately established him as a hugely important film composer and earned him an Academy Award nomination. Corigliano took part in every step of the production of this elaborate edition of the album which he had always wanted released. Revolution has never looked or sounded so good!
Album available through our CD Club only until January 3, 2010.

Norma Rae
Hard Contract
Unusual in its telling, but not unsuccessful, Hard Contract is provocative and indeed quite alluring. It draws us into this exotic world of intrigue and romance due, in no small part, to Jack Hildyard’s cinematography and Alex North’s utterly hypnotic score. Utterly brilliant! Utterly North!
