Featuring one of John Williams’ most famous marches, a second march which is every bit as good, a delicate love theme, plus a thrilling action score tying everything together, here is Midway, the original soundtrack recording – for the very first time!  This is indeed a historic album.  Midway was the only remaining John Williams score composed since Jaws to have never received an official soundtrack release.  This has now been rectified and the gap has finally been closed.

Our celebration of Bernard Herrmann's 100th birthday this year continues with three more CDs of never-before-released music from The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.   Earlier this year we released a 2-CD set featuring the premieres of eight Bernard Herrmann scores from the television classic. The remaining nine episodes are now available here which completes the presentation of all 17 Bernard Herrmann scores from "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour" – surely one of the most exciting and historic releases we have ever tackled.

Here we offer Karate Kid, Part II as a first-time, stand-alone release, a 1000-copy curtain call for what many consider to be the best of Bill Conti’s four classic Karate Kid scores.  We previously released this score as part of our 4-CD Karate Kid boxed set which presented all four of Conti’s Karate Kid scores together. This album does not differ from our original 2007 limited edition release but gives those who may have missed out before a chance to get this very beautiful, inspiring and exciting score.

Finally, and for the very first time, we are thrilled to present the complete score from The Egyptian. The Egyptian was first intended to be an original Alfred Newman score, but a schedule of merely five-and-a-half weeks — which included additional work needed on another picture — forced Newman to consider a co-composer. While it's almost impossible to imagine Bernard Herrmann agreeing to work with any other composer, the fact that it was Newman himself who needed help smoothed over any and all issues.

Back in 1998 Marco Beltrami's expansive Scream score was forced to share a 30-minute CD with the composer's sequel score from Scream 2.  It was certainly better than having it never be released at all, but the album was missing a lot of music.  Finally, 15 years after the film was first released and coinciding with the release of the fourth film in the franchise, a proper Scream release featuring over 60 minutes of music is at last available.

From the Varèse Sarabande archives comes the  wonderfully fun David Newman score for the Scott Valentine/Michelle Little 1987 film My Demon Lover. David Newman's talent was apparent even in the early days and My Demon Lover shows off the composer in a variety of different styles.

In 2009 producer Robert Townson and the Fimucité festival in Tenerife staged an extraordinary concert to commemorate what would have been Jerry Goldsmith´s 80th birthday.  The idea was to focus on Jerry’s music for science fiction and horror films.  This opened the door to include some pieces that don’t get as much concert attention as the obligatory Patton, Chinatown and Rudy.

Conducted by Mark Snow and Diego Navarro, the Jerry Goldsmith 80th Birthday Tribute and Celebration – a 2-disc set which includes a DVD of the concert along with a beautiful DVD booklet,  and a CD of just the music - can now be shared with fans of the composer’s work all over the world.

To conclude our historic year of CD Club 2010 releases, we close on a decidedly light note, with this whimsical and tuneful music from our old friend Pino Donaggio and the complete original soundtrack album of his score for Brian De Palma’s 1981 film HOME MOVIES, which comes to CD for the first time!

At long last, the entire magical, mischievous and macabre and previously unreleased score for John Williams’ 1976 score for Alfred Hitchcock’s final film – FAMILY PLOT finally comes to CD. FAMILY PLOT established a certain approach and tone of writing that Williams would further explore in such diverse later scores as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Home Alone, The Witches of Eastwick and Harry Potter, among others.

Maurice Jarre’s 1981 piano, brass and percussion based score for TAPS is both powerful and haunting. This CD will be a revelation even for those who know the music from this film!

For those who may have missed our The Karate Kid boxed set, featuring the scores for all four Karate Kid films, now comes the opportunity of buying Bill Conti’s original score for 1984’s THE KARATE KID, one of the quintessential scores from the 80s that everyone remembers.  It is also a score that left film music fans of the time absolutely bewildered that such a famous score for such a successful film could go unreleased. It hits all the right notes and features none other than Zamfir himself on pan flute, representing the mystic side of Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi.

Representing Jerry Goldsmith's first foray into a contemporary military story, A Gathering of Eagles has been one of his most requested scores for many years.  Since the film’s 1963 release, not one note of this score has ever been released, so A Gathering of Eagles, a much-loved military film featuring a brassy and beautiful early classic from Jerry Goldsmith, will be a highlight for many.

An Alfred Newman masterpiece comes to CD for the first time! The Snake Pit is a landmark film from 1948, which starred the great Olivia de Havilland and was directed by Anatole Litvak (Anastasia).  Both were nominated for Oscars, as was Newman.  Even the film itself was nominated for Best Picture.

Another classic debut is Robert Emmett Dolan’s The Three Faces of Eve the music for which is sober and sprightly, disturbing and poignant  and as always distinctive and beautiful.

Nightflyers is the only soundtrack album by composer Doug Timm, who was tragically murdered in Los Angeles just two years later, at what should have just been the beginning of his career. Timm was tasked with evoking the musical worlds of Blade Runner and Alien with nothing but his own array of synthesizers. Though not well-remembered all these years later, Nightflyers does have its devoted fans and we are happy to introduce this music to a new generation.
